£270 million Announced for Government's Green Heat Network Fund
The UK Budget 2020 announced on the 11th March 2020 has revealed yet more support for the development of heat networks with the Treasury’s commitment of £270 million to establish a Green Heat Network Fund. Available from 2022 through to 2025, the fund will support the development of low-carbon heat networks.
According to the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE), they estimate that this announcement will put 4.2 million homes onto heat networks by 2050.
This new funding will be in addition to the £320 million already allocated by the government for the Heat Network Investment Project (HNIP) – a scheme established in 2013 that is being delivered by the Heat Network Delivery Unit (HNDU). This initiative is expected to introduce match funding that will produce a significant boost to the development of the UK’s heat networks.
The team at Pipe Weldline Ltd welcome this much-needed support and look forward to working with its clients and colleagues in the industry to ensure that heat networks not only deliver reliable and efficient energy, but also make their contribution towards the country’s goal of net zero carbon emissions.
